If you’re looking for local walks to do during your stay with us at Abbey Holidays Loch Ness, the River Oich walk is a great option. This walk starts at the River Oich car park, which is only around a 5-minute drive from the abbey. From here, you can enjoy an easy route on forest and riverside paths. The path is quite flat and well-defined, making it suitable for all levels. Although look out for some rough and muddy sections.
Book NowThe River Oich Trail is signposted from the car park. Due to its flat pathway, this is a great walk for all ages, with lovely picnic spots down by the river. There’s plenty of wildlife to spot on the way, from red squirrels in the forest to otters on the waterside, and a variety of birds in the trees and skies. This trail follows the river through a forest of towering trees, including Norway spruce and larch, which can mature up to 40 metres high. You’ll also find the Scots pine, Scotland’s national tree, which grows to up to 36 metres. The impressive trees lead to a riverside path, and includes views of the Caledonian Canal. It takes around 2 hours to complete this lovely Scottish Highlands walk.
