The six sections of the trail

The Loch Ness 360° Trail is divided into six sections. Beginning in Inverness, you can work through the six sections, which will take you all around the loch in a loop and back to where you started. Or, you can choose one or two sections to complete on their own for a shorter route. Each section takes around a day to walk, or half a day to cycle. The trail passes through the Loch Ness villages of Drumnadrochit, Invermoriston, Fort Augustus, Foyers and Dores.

You can view detailed directions for all six sections on the Loch Ness 360° Trail website.

Loch Ness 360° Trail Highlights

There are so many things to see on the Loch Ness 360° Trail! Normally the trail starts in Inverness, but Fort Augustus is at the opposite end of the loch, so if you start from our doors, you will be in the middle and can continue on from here. When you reach Inverness, there is much to see as you follow the River Ness southwards. From the magnificent Inverness Castle overlooking the city, to the tranquil Ness Islands walk.

Sections one to three of the Loch Ness 360° Trail follow the path of the Great Glen Way. You will pass through Drumdadrochit village. Here you can enjoy a boat trip on the loch, visit the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition to learn all about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster and explore the historic ruins of Urquhart Castle. At Invermoriston, you can visit the Thomas Telford bridge and enjoy a picturesque walk along the falls. Section three ends at Fort Augustus, a pretty Scottish village where Loch Ness meets the Caledonian Canal, with plenty of shops and cafés to visit.
